New Reservoir
by Dennis Martin, Little Real Estate Expert
The Kiewit Gravel Pit has been transformed into the South Platte Reservoir near Highlands Ranch, a popular Denver relocation suburb. Is that happening? To provide recreation opportunities and another water source to Highlands Ranch.

How many times have you driven by the gravel pit north of C-470 just west of Santa Fe Drive. I have driven by it many times then this past weekend I stopped to see what was going on at the gravel pit. The Kiewit Gravel pit is now a reservoir.
As you drive by C-470 you can see it is slowly filling up with water. It serves as a storage site for surface water from the South Platte River and will serve Highlands Ranch.
The Reservoir will hold more than 6,400 acre feet of water and is slowly filling up three inches a day. The entrance is off Platte Canyon Drive and wraps around to the South Platte with parking spaces. Next time you drive by along C-470 look to the north and notice how the Reservoir is filling up.
