Littleton Rehabilitation Program
By Dennis Martin, Littleton Real Estate Expert
One of the many joys of being Realtor is meeting people that make a difference in peoples lives. I have been selling Real Estate in the Denver Metro area for over 30 years and didn’t know that Littleton Housing Authority had a Rehabilitation program for residence of Littleton.
My daughter Dawn and I met with Kimberly Kingston, program coordination for the Littleton Rehabilitation program to learn more about the program. We not only found a great program but met a wonderful person who makes a difference in many people lives. I want to share with you the different programs she discussed with us.

In 1977 the Littleton Housing Rehabilitation Program was established to assist low-to-moderate income homeowners in the City of Littleton with financial and technical assistance to renovate their homes.
The benefits of the LHA Rehab Program far exceed that of just securing a line of credit at a financial institution. Banks provide loans, but they don’t provide someone who will work with you through the construction process, making sure the work is done completely and to current code.
Our Program Coordinator has over 20 years of construction experience. Our Contractors are all licensed and insured. What this means to you is the work is done by professionals who warranty their work, and it is done in an efficient and timely manner.
We can customize any loan to fit the needs of our client. We provide 6% simple interest loans that are amortized over 10 years. Once you’ve established a loan through our program, the loan stays with our agency for its duration. You never have to worry about your account changing institutions or your payments going up or down. You can pay your loan off early with no penalties.
We recently enlarged the scope of our program to include remodels, basement finishes, and room additions. This is in addition to the work that has always been available through the Rehab Program including handicap retrofit, new roofs and gutters, plumbing, heating and electrical work, as well as health and safety needs.
Over the last 30 months, over $350,000 has been used to rehab/remodel homes in the city of Littleton. The Rehab Program was recently awarded an additional $150,000 in funding by Arapahoe County to continue this effort. We have many satisfied customers, several who would be happy to speak to you regarding their experience with the Littleton Housing Rehab Program. You can contact Kimberly Kingston, Program Coordinator at 303-991-5301. Kimberly can qualify you over the phone and give you more details about the program.
From a personal perspective, I am proud to be the coordinator for the Rehab program in Littleton. I have been a resident of Littleton for many years, so helping people in the city where I reside is a wonderful feeling. With the funding we receive from Arapahoe County, we continue to be able to help low income residents get their homes repaired and make sure they are living in a safe and healthy environment. I have made several close friends of our clients, many of whom I talk to and visit on a regular basis. I’ve worked in the construction field as a Project Manager and a Superintendent, building homes and finishing basements. It was rewarding work, but I never really had the opportunity to get close to my clients. That’s the best part of my job now. Helping seniors, young families, single moms and dads, and handicap individuals fix up their homes, and making good friends along the way.
Twice a year Rebuilding Together hosts a “build day” where several people across the metro Denver area are blessed by a group of volunteers who come into their home to address their immediate needs. Last year I was honored to act as a Skilled Captain on two homes. On one home we remodeled the bathroom, repainted the entire interior of the home, gave the kitchen a face-lift as well as installed new appliances, and worked on some exterior safety issues. It was a long day, but very rewarding. It was a joy to work with such a great group of volunteers. And the homeowners were so grateful for their beautiful new spaces. I cannot express how meaningful it is to be a part of these “build days.”
Several years ago I came across a company called Tomboy Tools. This Denver-based company manufactures a line of hand tools and power tools for women. I started my direct sales business over 5 years ago, and continue to empower and teach women how to tackle those do-it-yourself projects. My 20+ years in the construction field certainly lends to my ability to show women how to do drywall repairs, plumbing repairs, tiling projects, caulking, painting, and carpentry. I enjoy presenting our tools at home parties, and encouraging women to do the projects around their homes that they only dream about doing.
