Historic, Ken Caryl Manor House for Sale

The Manor House, the historic center of the Ken-Caryl Ranch, is for sale. The southern-style, landmark mansion was built in 1914 by industrialist and newspaper tycoon John Shaffer. The property has included many distinguished guest such as President Teddy Roosevelt and Will Rogers.  Over the years it has been a place of weddings, parties and family gatherings.

It saddens me to see such a historic building setting empty for so long and this historic resource being wasted. Now that it is for sale the questions about its future linger.

My family and many other families in the area have enjoyed the southern atmosphere unique menu and wonderful service. There are very few restaurant in the Denver Metro Area with the setting and atmosphere of the Manor House.  The dinning experience truly took you back in time.

The Peterson family purchased the Manor house in the 1990s operating the property as a restaurant and place for events.  Michael Shinn purchased the building in October of 2006 hoping to restore to a high end restaurant and event center.  Shinn had plans to renovate and even expand the building to bring the Manor house back to its historic legacy.  The change in the building sparked a debate with the Ken-Caryl Ranch Master Association and community members whether the building should be altered.

The Manor House is a valuable part of the Ken-Caryl Community. I hope the person that purchases it can continue the treasured history.

Sorry to bother you…. I’m a high school classmate of Michael Shinn’s…. Is there any way you would have of giving him my email address … we are having our 45th class reunion this summer and we’d love to find him.

Got something to say?
