Excitment In Erie

Erie Colorado Recreation Center

I am excited by what’s been happening in my community recently. We have always been considered the "what?" of high-end Denver suburbs. But, all that is changing.

Erie experienced overflow crowds over the last two weekends with the much-anticipated openings of the 64,000 square foot Erie Community Center and the Erie Community Library.

Sales of passes to the new center have far exceeded expectations.  Opening day crowds were treated to an eventful day which began with the official ribbon cutting ceremony by Mayor Andrew Moore and included free access to the pool, fitness center, various competitions as well as refreshments and demonstrations.  Erie residents get a reduced rate, but out of area residents are welcome to join the facility.

Erie Colorado Indoor PoolThere is a senior center, teen room with virtual dirt biking and dancing, climbing wall, state of the art basketball court, racquetball courts, pre-school center along with the pool, workout facilities (with available personal trainers) and even a family changing room.    Information regarding hours of operation and available classes, etc., go to www.eriecommunitycenter.com.  I am joining today.

The newest Weld County Library is located next to the community center.  The opening featured another ribbon cutting, tours and some jazz performed by the Erie High School Band.  There are approximately 50,000 books to choose from in the 20,000 square foot building.  I checked out a new book and it was quite a feeling knowing that you are the first to read a book, which many will read after you are done.  The audiotape library is extensive.  There are 27 public computers with internet and word processing capabilities, 12 mobile laptops and an outdoor Peace Garden and patio area that will feature a fire pit.  The building cost was  $6,800,000 and boasts a unique 1,000 square foot great room with fireplace.  More information can be obtained online.

Real estate is growing by leaps and bounds with a 3,500 home community scheduled to break ground in about a year.  Mayor Moore states he has recently been in talks with companies interested in building a supermarket, drug store and restaurant .  The current 17,000 residents are very excited by these new additions and they will serve future residents well.

We are small, undiscovered and a great place to live. It’s getting better every day!
